Past Shows

Since 2011, Encore has brought together the talents of hundreds of singers and musicians from all walks of life and all corners of San Diego County. We love to perform some of your favorite tunes from Broadway to the Silver Screen. Encore also performs each year at various community events, special cabaret performances, and at San Diego cultural events such as December Nights and San Diego Sings!

Hair in Concert – Winter 2017 – In its first ever full-length musical production, Encore Vocal Ensemble is proud to present, in concert, the iconic 1960s rock-musical, Hair! Featuring hit songs such as “Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine,” “Hair,” and “Good Morning, Starshine,” Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical provides a humorous, colorful, and often poignant look at the rise of hippie culture and the sexual revolution in the shadow of the Vietnam War.

Hollywood Hits – Spring 2017 – Encore brings the glitz and glamour of Hollywood to the stage with a century of fan-favorite songs from the big screen. Enjoy an incredible line-up of songs from Singin’ in the Rain, Sister Act, Skyfall, The Wizard of Oz, West Side Story, and more!

Love Hurts Cabaret 2 – February 2017 With music from Waitress, Hamilton, Chicago, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend lets talk about the anti-love ballad where heart break and tears remind us all of lost loves and friends, and the hope that comes with challenges of the heart.

Encore World Tour – November 2016 Adventure with us on the dimly lit streets of Paris, or the hopeful slums of Mumbai. Stroll the glamorous French Rivera and safari to the arid plains of Africa, or wander the emerald valleys of Ireland. Find true love in the sultry tropics of Vietnam and show your wild side in the irreverent nightclubs of Berlin. Or climb the green hills of Austria (Quite possibly they may be alive with the sound of music!)

Encore is here to put the fun back into FUNdraising! We’re getting ready for our summer fundraising cabaret, with an exciting line-up of some of the biggest crowd-pleasers from our past 9 seasons including music from: Opening Night, Worst Show in Town, Sondheim 101, Out of Time, ShowToons, Encore ROCKS! and our latest show, LOSERS. America Rocks! Cabaret – August 2016 This red, white and blue fundraiser america-rocks-website-bannerwas extra patriotic, with a twist with some Hamilton, Oklahoma, and In the Heights, with a few of our favorites from recent shows like 21 Guns and Prop 8 The Musical. The evening ended with a delicious pie auctions and some fantastic raffle winnings.

Encore Exposed: On Stage, Up Close and Personal – June 2016 Featured personal stories from some of your favorite Encore stars – stories that will made you laugh yourself out of your seat, remember your most awkward years and realize how much we all have in common.

Murder Mystery Music Show – November 2015 Everyone knows musical theater can be a killer (to your career). Encore showed its sinister side with a lineup of your favorite murderously mysteriously musical melodies.

Encore HITS: Volume 1 – August 2015Encore brought a lot of their favorites back for a 1 night cabaret performance at the Swedenborgian Hall.

Fiesta del Sol – July 2015Encore helped to celebrate the local arts and culture as they performed in the Choral Showcase. Fiesta del Sol is a FREE community festival featuring great music performances, community pavilions, and booths.

LOSERS – Because Winning Isn’t Everything – June 2015150x150-fb-or-jccEncore Vocal Ensemble presented songs from shows nominated for Best Musical at the Tony Awards(TM) that lost and Best Original Song nominees that came up empty at the Oscars(TM). Our offbeat awards show proved once and for all that winning isn’t everything!

Encore at San Diego Sings! – March 2015Not only did Encore participate in the thousand-voice choir in a world premiere performance, we also brought music from both Les Misérables and RENT to the Spreckels Organ Pavilion stage.

Encore ROCKS! – November 2014rocks_posterInspired by a “magical jukebox,” Encore rocked out to songs from rock musicals and rock operas including Jesus Christ Superstar, RENT, We Will Rock You, Next to Normal, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Tommy, Spring Awakening, First Date, Jersey Boys, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Movin’ Out, Across the Universe, The Wedding Singer, All Shook Up, and American Idiot.

Encore on the Rocks! Cabaret – September 2014Rockin’ the Martinis Above Fourth stage, Encore presented music from Jesus Christ Superstar, RENT Chicago and Movin’ Out plus songs from Carole King, Bon Jovi, Cee Lo Green and John Lennon.

Encore Performs at San Diego LGBT Pride – July 2014Encore premiered our medley from Kinky Boots for our first San Diego Pride appearance, performed on the Wine Grotto stage along with fun music from past shows
HIV Awareness Event at Malcolm X Library – June 2014Encore volunteered as entertainers for this community event, bringing back music from Out of Time including “Aquarius/Let The Sun Shine In,” “Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina,” “Forget About the Boy,” and “Seize the Day.”

Out of Time – June 2014outoftime_posterEncore traveled throughout history to bring you music from Les Misérables, Hair, Ragtime, Hairspray, Chicago, Songs For a New World, Aida, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Miss Saigon, Fiddler on the Roof, Newsies, Prop 8 The Musical, 1776, Evita and much, much more.

The Love Hurts Cabaret – February 2014Encore’s third cabaret show at Martinis Above Fourth in Hillcrest was “Bigger, Better and EXTRA Bitter” and included music from Wicked, Cabaret, Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog, Jekyll & Hyde, RENT, and Chess.

December Nights – December, 2013Combining holiday favorites with past favorites, Encore braved a rare San Diego rainstorm to perform music from The Muppet Movie, Brave, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and Mary Poppins in Balboa Park.

Encore Cabaret II at Martinis Above Fourth – September 2013Returning to the cabaret stage, Encore brought back more of our favorite songs from past shows and previewed music for the following show. The Music included songs from Little Shop of Horrors, Jekyll & Hyde, Hercules, The Princess & the Frog, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, and South Park.

ShowToons: Encore Gets Animated! – June 2013showtoons_posterDrawing (pun intended) from stage, film and television, Encore brought to life music from The Lion King, Mary Poppins, The Prince of Egypt, Avenue Q, The Muppet Movie, Hercules, An American Tail, Pete’s Dragon, Toy Story 2, South Park, Brave, Beauty and the Beast and many more animated favorites.

Encore Cabaret at Martinis Above Fourth – April 2013Encore brought back some of our favorite songs from past shows for our very first cabaret show, including music from The Book of Mormon, Company, Next to Normal, Avenue Q, Follies, Sunday in the Park with George, The Little Mermaid, and Sweeney Todd.
